Ghana Xperience Building upon the achievements of the impactful ‘Year Of Return’ Ghana 2019 campaign, ‘Beyond the Return’ emerges as its sequel. The original campaign marked the 400th Anniversary of the arrival of the first documented enslaved Africans in Jamestown, Virginia, in 1619. Alongside honoring the endurance of Africans over the last four centuries, the notable initiative also extended an open invitation to individuals of African descent worldwide, urging them to consider a return to their ancestral land, with Ghana as a particular focal point. Historically, December has consistently witnessed the return of Ghanaians residing abroad, as they come back to their homeland to reunite with loved ones and partake in the festive spirit. In 2019, during the ‘Year of Return,’ the Ghana Tourism Authority, operating under the guidance of the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, formally introduced the #DecemberInGH campaign. The goal was to present Ghana as an attractive destination for the global African community and beyond, seeking a December holiday experience. The outcomes of this campaign have surpassed initial projections, firmly establishing Ghana’s presence on the international stage and highlighting it as the preferred holiday spot, attracting a diverse array of visitors, including numerous Hollywood luminaries. ‘December in Ghana’’ transcends mere numerical statistics in tourism; it has evolved into a rallying cry, inviting the global African family to rekindle their connections through our rich arts and culture. The campaign showcases a distinctive event calendar, featuring activities that have received official endorsement from the Ghana Tourism Authority through the Beyond the Return Secretariat. This calendar has become one of the most eagerly awaited schedules, influencing travelers’ decisions on when to journey here based on the events they intend to participate in. Many of these events also align closely with the fundamental principles of the ‘Beyond the Return’ initiative, as we maintain our engagement with the historical diaspora community.
